One of my friend told me he makes a girlfriend on phone and fall in love with her.is it true.it happens?

my friend tell me that he falls in true love with a girl whom he used to call everyday.and their relation is going to be one year..but now my friend is going to kill himself just because her gf rejects him by saying u r hindu and i'm catholic so this relation can't work anymore.stop calling me..godd is this really happens in world..or he maks me fool?? but i saw him calling all the time and chating with her girlfriend but true love just with talking on phone without meeting..can't understand......sry friends my english is not gud but if u understand then tell me the answer so that i help my broken hearted friend..
