What are the Laws for owning a Knife/Sword/Axe in the UK?

Carrying a knife in a public place for no-good reason carries a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison. I Have carried knives in public, but then again the police let me off as i am a chef, and was taking them to work!, and they very kindly gave me a lift to the hotel where i work!
